The previous grain agreement under UN auspices stipulated 120 days, Russia agreed to extend it, but on the condition that it be only 60 days, i.e. half the period.
There are several factors that raise suspicion about the Russian position. First, the country that will benefit most from this agreement by supplying it with grain is China, the largest importer of wheat, and it is an ally of Russia. Therefore, we ask questions: How can Russia harass China?
Russia, since the beginning of the war, has graduated in bargaining and extortion first with gas and oil, then Russia’s strategy has graduated in threatening to use nuclear weapons and then blackmailing with starvation.
The extension of the agreement for a period of sixty days is not arbitrary because it is related to the summer season when the international demand for grain is very urgent, and on the contrary, the demand for energy resources decreases.
Doubts hover over Russia’s intentions to use the grain agreement to put pressure on some African countries, including them in particular, to side with Russia in its war against Ukraine and its occupation of part of its lands.
There are several things that will change starting next summer, especially on the ground, as Ukraine intends to launch massive attacks to liberate the eastern and southern regions from the Russian presence, following the change in the balance of power on the ground by supplying the Ukrainian forces with a huge amount of qualitative weapons such as tanks, anti-aircraft and even warplanes.
